If your looking to make a statement about yourself, this is the way! Just kidding, but this craft is super cool! Layering, designing, and pasting the poster is a fun way to spend the afternoon with a bright poster to reward your efforts. These also make great handmade gifts for close friends. Whether your listing your favorites or telling a friend what you love about them, pull out some old catalogs and let's get started!
What you need:

Pretty much all you need are a bunch of unwanted catalogs and magazines. Old calendars, flyers, newspapers, and cards work well too. Choose a color of card stock for your background, and a pair of scissors, bottle of glue, and a sheet of plain computer paper completes the list!
Step one:
Sketch an outline of your head. I just copied photos but you can also have two friends help you with this. Go in a dark room and sit close to a wall. Have one friend shine a flashlight at your head and have the other friend trace the shadow onto the computer paper.

Step 2:
Flip the paper over and place it on a window so that the daylight shines through, making it easy to see the lines. Trace the head outline. Now your outline is on both sides of the paper.
Step 3:
Set the paper aside and turn to the catalogs. Flip through, checking each page for words or pictures that have special meaning to you. Foods you like, activities you do, adjectives that describe you, places you've visited, animals you love, etc. This can feel a little tedious, but it doesn't take very long.

Cut out more than you think you will use. It's surprising how many little slips of paper will fit. And of course, if you run out you can always cut more. It's just easier to know what your working with ahead of time.
Step 4:
Begin pasting the scraps, starting with the biggest pictures/words. Ones that can be covered up a little bit and act as your base.
Step 5:
Keep gluing, working from biggest to smallest. Glue at different angles and overlappings.

End with tiny clippings to fill in the little gaps between words.
Step 6:
Place a heavy book on top of the paper and let the glue dry. Once the glue is dry, flip the paper over, backside up, and cut along the outline. The outline on the front side should be covered up. Glue the cut-out to the card stock background, place the book on top, and let dry.
Step 7: Hang on the wall and admire!
